Just a quick overview of KrisB, i know there some sceptics out there who have been unsure of using Kris for whatever reason, so heres my account in as much detail as pobbile
Location, Facilities and equipment - A workshop away from the hussle and bussle of a busy, mainline dealership which in my opinion become a very personal experience. The facilities, well, being winter it’s onviosuly not going to be the warmest of places but with a constant flow of tea and coffee, there was never a chilly moment!
An audio equipped workshop provided a decent atmosphere and even offered me an area for which there was sleeping facilities as i had been travelling since 4:30am! i didn’t take up this offer, but nonetheless!
Equipment there was substantial and from what i could see, there was never a point where ‘rummaging’ come into the job.
Service provided - Whenever i’ve undergone any work on my car, there has ALWAYS been a problem, its never been straight forward, so, prior to meeting Kris, we had been in contact into what pieces we needed, so i had oredered hoses, pipes and the various other sorts to be put onto the car. Unfortunately, I had not considered and extras besides the bosch, Kris suggested whilst the pump etc. was being taken off, it would be useful doing the water pump, cam-belt and tensioners – so i agreed, straight away, phoning various companies to find the best price for equipment for me!
Secondly, come the part of me missing a woodruff key, i had never got hold of one – amateur mistake, so Kris again, phoned around but none could be found, so in the end he suggested we go to the local scrapyard and find one, tools in hand we went, found a lovely 406 with a bosch pulley, Kris set to work and within a minute, we had our item!
Thirdly, Kris as a mechanic is probably one of the most efficient people i’ve come across. He knows exactly what needs to be done and does it with what seemed to be such ease – never was there a moment of “oh for **** sake” as frustration kicked in, instead, humour took aside and he cracks a random joke, takes a teat break, and gets back to it!
Bonuses - furtermore from the basic service, any part of my car which was not “up to scratch”, Kris usually had a 2nd hand spare lying around, for example, i had a pully which was bent? and creating the cambelt to rub, if a new belt was put on, the same would happen – so, Kris grabbed a 2nd hand one he had which was still in fine condition to use. this was one issue to name a few – flat tyres, low oil , low tread, re-piping my boost gauge pipe, new coolant, hints and tips to keeping the car up to scratch, using his heat gun to debadge the back end and the general fun side of the day!
As also i am a keen amateur mechanic, i do like to my hands dirty – i had bought along some new glow plugs, so i got to work with those, as well as emptying the rad. Theres only so much help one can give when a mechanic is working, but again, there was never a point where i was feeling i was getting in the way.
Overall, i can’t see many ways in which Kris can improve his service, i ‘like’ to be a constructive critict in any ways i can, purely to improve, but for Kris i think the only area for which he could improve would be to have a better joke collection, and perhaps some ginger nut biscuits?? ![]()
Apart from that, i think thats all there is to say about that!
I’m already saving some cash up to get myself booked in again for some work as my clutch likes to slip as the power increase is not enjoyed by it. Also as it is cheaper for me to use Kris, than it is to use a local garage.
Big thanks to KrisB for all the work carried out, and see you soon – 10/10 !

I’ve used KrisB twice now. An engine conversion including; head rebuild including head skim and clean, new headgasket and head bolts and valve stem seals with everything reseated etc. New cambelt, new clutch, new bottom end and cam oil seals and so forth. I’ve also used him for suspension work which included; converting an XSi beam back to a 3 stud beam, making new brake lines and fitting refurbed wishbones with polybushes all round.
I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again, he has undertaken some of the largest jobs you can do to be honest and the work has been very good and niggly problems sorted out along the way.
A good thing about Kris is that you’re able to talk through what you want from the work and because of his knowledge he’s able to help you get what you want out of his work. The engine conversion I’ve had done looks very good, everything has been cleaned where possible and the car was properly checked before I picked it up – likewise the suspension work has been spot on.
Kris’ rates are GREAT. I won’t disclose how much he has charged me for the work I have had done, I’ll leave that for you to seek by contacting him – but really it’s some of the best priced work I’ve seen for the hours and effort that goes into it. It’s not just a job Kris loves modified cars

Ive used Kris 3 times now. Torsian bar, full cambelt change, and full coilover fitting. Each time it was done to a high standard for a very reasonable price. Unlike most garages you can watch Kris work (if you want) and you wont be able to fault him putting a tool down and scratching your lovely paintwork. I seriously doubt most mainstream garages would yet you because of some of the things they get up to I.e making you pay for something you dont need. very friendly and always a cup of tea to hand. Highly reccomended.

Recently bought a Peugeot 106 for my son and was horrified at the lack of braking capability even though it was a relatively low mileage car. Contacted Kris who suggested upgrading from the standard 1.1 calipers to a set of GTI calipers coupled to some GTI vented disks. Took the car to Kris’s workshop and the work was carried out very quickly and efficiently at a very reasonable cost. I would have no hesitation in recommending Kris to friends and family and will undoubtedly be using him again in the near future. Thanks Kris

Kris, originially lowered my flat arch 1.1 a few years ago, and similarly did my GTi last year when i brought it. He was extremely friendly and very
efficient, and explained any part of the process I didnt understand myself. Having that, put me at ease to a great job that he did. I will definitely be taking my car back to him for any other work needed, especially with the good prices and warm welcome. Matt

Kris did a full service today on my Astra Coupe 2.2. He's very efficient and has done an excellent job at a very reasonable price. Would highly recommend him! Sav

Kris did a cambelt on my 406, two days ago. Very nice guy, very good service and has lots of knowledge on the engine. Cambelt done for much cheaper than a main garage would. I would happily recommend him and i've now got some more stuff planned for him to do ha.
Chris Millar (dum-dum), Various Vehicles:
I’ve used KrisB for a few years now and have always found his work to be of the highest standard and at the best price. He has always been more than friendly and as well as completing the job in hand he has been happy to look over the car and point out anything else that needs doing while looking after my cars as if they were his own.
The first job I used KrisB for was lowering a 306, he knew all the tools and techniques he needed for the complicated torsion bar set up on the car and I was happy that Id taken my car to a pro rather than attempt the job myself.
Since then I have used KrisB for everything that I either could not do myself or did not want to do myself including cam belt changes, head gaskets, lowering other cars, turbo swaps, welding me a custom exhaust (3″ bore with a 4″ tail pipe and single box) and all the fabrication that was involved in fitting an engine that I had built myself including converting to an electric power steering set up, fitting an external wastegate and screamer pipe, re locating the washer bottle, fitting an oil cooler in the front wheel arch and many more jobs that Im sure Ive forgotten.
KrisB has always offered me plenty of options on how and when to have the work done and where it was possible and parts were needed has offered me a selection of parts of various quality and cost and all at trade prices such as when I needed a new radiator and was offered two different cheap ones or a slightly more expensive but more efficient and higher quality Nissens alloy radiator at £40 less than the retail price.
My current project KrisB is helping me with is fitting a Peugeot HDi engine and a larger turbo into a RWD Dutton kit car and all the custom fabrication that that entails.
Cain (Schmaino) Peugeot 306 Dturbo:
I’ve had my brakes done on my 106 quiksilver back when i had that and a lot on my 306, including:
I couldn’t say a bad word! My car is just how I want it now. We found an awesome little bosch pump that had only done 40k when the conversion was done as well, spot on buddy!
Silestanix (Harry) London – 306 Dturbo
Kris’s worked on mine…well, literally an hour ago; gave my D-Turbo a tune and it’s made a big difference in terms of torque in all gears, it’s more free revving, and keeps pulling throughout the rev and speedo range. I’ve also had other work done like clutch cable, arb links, radiator fitting and coolant system flush, boost leaks repaired, glowplugs done…a hell of a lot of work! The car was a shed when I got it and most of the work has been done by Kris. I’d say capability for small or large job is perfectly fine, if not more than enough, and we always have a laugh at the same time. Prices are very good and he doesn’t take short cuts cos he knows these cars are in daily use and we don’t want anything going wrong and us being left on the side of the road. I’d not drive 70 miles to and 70 miles from Kris’s if it wasn;t worth it, so therefore, he’s Thoroughly recommended. Safe for today as well bro!

Went to see kris a few months ago now to do ALOT of work in one day. Great guy to chat with, more than happy to let you know what hes doing and get you knowing rather than just ploughing on and keeping you in the dark. Does a good job and is thorough in his work, extremely happy with the job done on my car and will be going back again in the new year for another large amount of work to be done. Extremely competitve prices too, beats anywhere i can find, even with the diesel getting down there
Pete_Gti (Pete) Snodland, Kent – Supercharged 306 Gti6
Kris has done a fair bit of work for me , mainly because i couldnt be assed to do it myself , but have to say the work kris carried out on my 6 has been greatly apprecaited. And removing and re-fitting the engine was top job, Sure word or 2 be in PFC for you kris
Pompey306mark (Mark) Portsmouth – 306 Dturbo
Well in the year i have been on this site I have been to see Kris on a number of occassions. In fact the only reason I am on the forum is because of Kris.
So I guess I have to thank him not only for doing a stunning job on my car, which will be proved by Christmas with a rolling road read out, but I also have to thank him for meeting all the cool people on the site I have met.
Everytime I visit Kris, its an informative, fun and productive time and I also enjoy the drive home as he seems to make my car even better to drive everytime.
The work so far lists something like this, Bosch conversion, Rear Disc beam conversion and lowering, Front spring lowering.
266mm Hdi disc conversion, FMIC setup, dump valve, Strut brace, Hdi box conversion wth flywheel and clutch, Phase 1 to Phase 3 front end conversion, Phase 1 to Phase 3 door cards, Phase 2 leather Steering wheel, down pipe for the exhaust, Phase 3 tailgate and I am sure there are alot of little things that I have forgot.
I have no doubt in my mind that meeting Kris was a good thing for both my car and me, if not a bad thing for my wallet, but I know I would not have got the same level and quality of work for the same price anywhere else. If you cant do the work yourself then pay someone else to do it is my motto, and Kris’s work is worth every penny.
Which is why he still has a T2 turbo conversion to do, a new bosch pump with mods, GTI6 front brakes, Oil cooler and lower front strut brace to fit.
